Starting > Perfect: Lessons from Months of Procrastination

It’s mid-January, and I just realized something wild: I’ve put off my blog since April. That’s months of ideas, notes, and plans sitting around, untouched. Crazy, right? But here’s the lesson I’m learning about imperfection: you can’t wait until something is perfect to start.

When I first thought about blogging, I imagined a flawless setup, perfectly written posts, and a polished design. And because it wasn’t perfect, I kept postponing it. But perfection is a trap. Waiting for everything to be just right is the fastest way to never start at all.

The ironic part? I help people every day with their own projects, guiding them, motivating them, and encouraging them to start even when it’s messy. And here I am, procrastinating something I really want to do. I consume content constantly, I see others posting, sharing, creating and yet, putting myself out there feels so much harder. Why is posting my own work so intimidating?

The truth is, you can always adjust later. You can change the layout, edit your posts, or rethink your approach. You can improve as you go. But nothing happens until you take that first step. That first post, no matter how messy, is better than months of planning in your head.

I wish I had remembered that last April. I would be much further along by now if I had just started. And honestly, who decided you have to be an expert before you begin? Someone once said (I can’t remember who), why would I be an expert when I just started? That hit me hard. Starting is how you get good. Starting is how you learn. Starting is how you grow.

So here’s to starting, in all its messy, imperfect glory. To putting your ideas out there, even if they’re rough. To learning, tweaking, and improving along the way. Hopefully, I don’t read this in three years and hate it but even if I do, at least I’ll have three years of fun to look back on. Don’t wait. Don’t overthink. Just start.

Sincerely, a person who even delayed this simple post.
